Jipeng Liu at Snow Measurement Field School 2026
Date: 01/12/2026
This January, one of our Graduate Student, Jipeng Liu attended the Snow Measurement Field School 2026, held from January 5–9 in Granby, Colorado. The program focused on hands-on training that connects field-based snow measurements with hydrologic modeling, remote sensing validation, and ecological applications.
Jipeng received intensive training in snow measurement techniques and snowpack characterization while learning directly from senior researchers involved in NASA SnowEx campaigns.
For his group project, he worked on a study that extends his ongoing research in the Cho Lab, examining how forest structure influences snow distribution using airborne LiDAR snow depth data.
Reflecting on the experience, Jipeng recalled how wonderful it was for him to meet people who greatly inspire him on his project. He highlighted how valuable it was to connect theory with real-world field conditions.
During the Snow School, I had the opportunity to interact with researchers who collected the data used in my work and authors whose studies have greatly inspired me. I was delighted to learn alongside snow researchers from around the world. Thank you, Cho Lab and CUAHSI!.
The Cho Lab thanks the Snow Measurement Field School team and partners for a well-organized, hands-on, and engaging program. We truly appreciate the dedication that went into creating a valuable learning experience for all the participants.
